I Can’t Do This, But I CAN Do That profiles several remarkably self-aware children with learning differences who are facing their struggles with determination and the tools to help them succeed. Each has discovered a particular strength or talent that gives them much needed self esteem. For these children “different” does not mean “less than,” and they have found that they can do as well as anyone else in school if instruction is tailored to the way they learn best. Each student has hobbies that allow them to demonstrate their abilities and to take their minds off the frustration of being discounted for thinking outside the box. Whether they attend public or private school, or a school that specializes in learning differences, each receives individualized help – an essential part of their ability to discover their innate learning style. Nine-year-old Julia says it best: “We have different minds, and we’re gonna be able to do great things in the future.”Show more
