Profile

Rohit ‘The Hit Man’ Sharma is one of the most successful players in IPL history, having led Mumbai Indians to a record five titles. The stylish opener has been a consistent performer since making his debut in 2008. Rohit is currently fourth on the list of all-time leading run-scorers in the TATA IPL, with 6211 runs in 243 matches at an average of 29.57 and strike rate of 130.04.. His tally includes 1 century and 42 fifties.

Rohit's best season came in 2013 when he scored 538 runs at an average of 38.42 as Mumbai Indians won their first IPL title. He took over as captain midway through that season and led the team to four more trophies in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. Rohit's astute leadership has been key to Mumbai's success over the years.

Rohit is one of only four players (along with Pragyan Ojha, Lakshmipathy Balaji and Irfan Pathan) to win the TATA IPL title with two different teams - Deccan Chargers in 2009 and Mumbai Indians in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

In the TATA IPL auction, Rohit has always been Mumbai Indians' first-choice retention. He was retained for Rs 16 crore ahead of the 2022 season, making him one of the highest-paid players in the league

Off the field, Rohit lives in Mumbai with his wife Ritika Sajdeh and daughter Samaira. He is also one of India's most marketable athletes, endorsing several top brands.

On the international stage, Rohit has been a vital cog in India's batting lineup across formats. Circa March 2024, In 59 Tests, he scored 4137 runs at 45.46 with 12 centuries. In ODIs, Rohit has 10790 runs in 262 matches at 49.12 with 31 tons including a record three double-hundreds! In T20is, with 3974 runs at an average of 31.79 & a strike rate of almost 140, he is just 63 runs behind the all-time leading run scorer, Virat Kohli. Rohit holds the record for hitting the most sixes in a single edition of the TATA IPL and circa March 2024, has hit almost 600 sixes in international cricket, the most by a distance.

Rohit will turn 37 in the middle of IPL 2024, but remains one of the most destructive openers in the TATA IPL. Mumbai Indians fans will hope Rohit can focus on his batting - now that he’s relieved from captaincy - and wind back the clock and guide the team back to the title in 2024. With his experience and match-winning ability, Rohit will be key to Mumbai's chances of regaining the trophy.
