A poor milkman Mahadevrao has three daughters. The eldest daughter, married to a drunkard, tackles with her own set of problems. The two younger ones Nalini and Malini are unmarried. Mahadevrao's wife worries about their marriage, but Mahadevrao does not treat the girls as a burden. Problems begin to creep in when Malini falls in love with her affluent college-mate Chandu but Chandu's father demands a huge dowry. The story follows the struggles of Mahadevrao who drives home the message time and again that girls deserve to live and lead a good life just as much as boys.
